Music by the Bay Live Presents Les Stroud
Friday, October 26 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm$70
As the host of the Discovery Channel’s Survivorman, Les Stroud entertained viewers with his immersive approach to the wilderness, but the Canadian-born Stroud also spreads his nature-first message via music, releasing his own albums of guitar and harmonica-based blues, folk and rock songs.
Les Stroud has made a powerful name in the world of documentary film making, indeed starting an entirely new genre of TV, yet he comes by his music honestly. Since the age of fourteen Stroud has been writing songs and studying musically. At 23 his music was being shopped to the likes of Bruce Springsteen and was a published songwriter with RCA/BMG music.
Les Stroud has been nicknamed the “Hendrix of harmonica’ for good reason. Though his personal training comes from studying traditional blues harmonica of Sonny Terry, Sonny Boy Williamson, James Cotton and Junior Wells, he quickly moved towards listening to powerhouse players such as Paul Butterfiled, Billy Branch, Jason Ritchie, Mike Stevens and Jerome Godboo. It was then that he knew he would need his own signature sound. It is said Les plays the ‘harp’ like he’s playing a guitar and to watch him live is awe-inspiring.
Musically, Stroud has shared the stage with Slash, Journey, Jonny Lang, James Cotton, Steve Stevens, Alice Cooper, Steven Stills, Tommy Shaw, Robbie Krieger, Blues Traveler, Tesla, Jakob Dylan, Randy Bachman, Chicago, Montgomery Gentry, Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Roots.
